Established a small, non-hierarchal, grassroots organization with Janissa Hamilton, to address and combat the environmental problems of the Richmond area through education, direct action, and examining and adjusting our relationship with food. Activities included recruiting members, hosting meetings, brainstorming discussions, collectively identifying our mission and future goals, collaborating with other local groups to achieve common goals.

Exhibiting and selling original works such as drawings, paintings, and photographs, as well as providing photography and mural painting services. Working with interior designers and clients to to design and produce commissioned pieces. Provided musical accompaniment for Cameron Stuart’s play “The Storm” performed in Atlanta, Georgia, as a part of “Art on the Beltline.” Sitting as an artistic model for photographers and figure-drawing groups.

Bakery Apprenticeship

Operating a small scale bakery, Casa Placencia, within a Bed & Breakfast during a 3-week apprenticeship with owner Jacki Tipton. Activities included cleaning, mixing and baking of ingredients according to recipes from scratch, to produce bakery products. Responsible for operating a booth and the sale of bakery products in the Placencia Arts Festival.

Operated as T.A. under professor Tom Adair, in this discussion based course centered around Garth Hallett’s text, “Wittgenstein’s Definition of Meaning as Use.” The course objective was to learn how to speak and write clearly and concisely about one’s work and to build a successful artist’s statement over the course of the semester. Responsibilities varied from engaging with students in class discussions, communicating via email between instructor and students, reading assignments and papers, and working with students individually.

Instructing youths, ages 9-teens on composition, timing, subject matter, basic 35 mm camera operations, and black and white darkroom chemical printing. Would take students on a picture-taking field trip on Tuesday, and have darkroom time for printing the rest of the week.

Honors Summer Undergraduate Research Program
From 2008 to 2008
Over an 8 week period of time I worked personally with mentor Tom Adair, reading and researching John Brockman’s text,“Einstein, Gertrude Stein, Wittgenstein, & Frankenstein: Re-Inventing the Universe.” I received a $2000 stipend over the 8 weeks and was required to participate in workshops, weekly meetings, submit progress reports and time sheets signed by my mentor, and give an oral presentation on my collected research at the end of the 8 weeks to the Honors College.
